5Really educational guitar  Oct 12, 2008
My 9 year old son did not have the patience to watch and learn the notes. It could have been a great learning tool, but it was too much for him. Guitar Hero is more his skill level. He still loves it, just don't expect your child to become a virtuoso - he just enjoys banging around on it. It has held up very well.

4Rock Star Fun For Kids  Aug 22, 2008
I purchased this guitar for my four year old son who loves music and all instruments. He hasn't put the toy down and I have definitely gotten my money's worth. The TV mode is better for older kids but playing the guitar on its own is just as much fun. A great toy for the price and playing with it simulates playing a real guitar!

5It's been over a year and my daughter is still learning on it.  Aug 06, 2008
I bought this guitar last Christmas for my daughter because she wanted a guitar. I wasn't about to buy a new guitar and lessons because I wasn't for sure of her interest level so we bought I can play Guitar. My daughter says that it isn't as fun as Guitar Hero, but she says that she actually knows the cords to play. She's still playing it after a year and is pretty good at three finger combinations. The product is good. The graphics are lacking for the technology we have, but it is a learning tool. Unlike Guitar Hero she is actually learning real cords, so that is better the video game. I would recommend this to other people but keep in mind that this will unlikely please a child who is dying to have guitar hero.

1I can't believe I paid for this guitar!  Mar 19, 2008
I bought this guitar a few months ago for a Christmas present for my six year old son. I was pretty jazzed thinking it would be a great way for my son to learn guitar. Wrong! The strumming is fine, but it is the buttons that are impossible to learn. The color coding on the buttons is configured wrong. If you look carefully when playing the games, the colors are in different places on the guitar than what they show on the t.v. screen for the game. Very very confusing AND it is giving you the wrong information on proper chording. I'm wondering if this is a defect on just some of the guitars. If you do purchase this guitar make sure to check if the color coding is the same on your guitar as it is on the t.v. screen. Don't throw away that box or receipt until you have done so!

3Great fun, but poorly built  Feb 16, 2008
My son got this for Christmas 2007 and loved it... however, the guitar only played when plugged into the TV, never alone...initially I never realized it was SUPPOSED to play solo... while plugged into the TV, it constantly kept disconnecting - you have to wiggle the jack that connects the guitar to the TV to make it work. I called Fisher Price and they were VERY nice...they sent a mailing label to mail the guitar back and replaced it with a completely new one...the new one works solo - which my son loves, but still has the same problem with the jack. So...it's great fun, but very frustrating as he has to keep getting me to help with the jack connection. A+ to Fisher Price for their customer service, C- for their product QA.
